Error Codes

Bosch E15 and E24 Error Codes Explained

Two of the most common Bosch dishwasher codes. E15 is a leak-protection trip and E24 is a drainage fault. Both have owner checks, and here is how to work through them.

Short answer: E15 means the AquaStop float found water in the base pan and shut the machine down; dry the pan and find the leak. E24 means the dishwasher cannot drain; clean the filter, hose, air gap, and pump. If E15 keeps returning or E24 persists after cleaning, book a technician.

E15: Aquastop Leak Protection

Bosch dishwashers have a safety pan in the base with a foam float. If water collects there, the float rises, trips a switch, and the machine shows E15 and stops filling to protect your floor. First, turn off the water supply. If you can access it, tilt the dishwasher back slightly so the pan drains, or carefully soak up the water. When the pan is dry the code often clears. If E15 comes back, there is a real leak, from a hose, seal, or the tub, that needs to be located and repaired rather than reset.

E24: Drainage Fault

E24 means water is not leaving the tub in time. Work through the drain path in order: clean the filter at the base, remove and inspect the drain hose for kinks or clogs, check the sink air gap and the garbage-disposal knockout if the drain ties into the sink, and clear any debris caught in the drain pump. In most homes one of these is the culprit. If the path is clear and E24 remains, the drain pump itself may have failed and needs replacement.

Why These Come Up in Mountain Homes

Hard water and infrequent use in second homes both contribute. Scale and trapped food narrow the drain path, and a machine that sits unused can develop a stiff or stuck pump. Regular filter cleaning is the best prevention, as covered in our Bosch maintenance guide.

Water on the floor with E15? Shut off the dishwasher's water supply at the valve and book service. Leaving an active leak risks the cabinetry and flooring around the unit.

Code Will Not Clear?

Frequently Asked Questions

What Does E15 Mean on a Bosch Dishwasher?
E15 means the AquaStop leak protection has detected water in the base pan and shut the machine down. Turn off the water, tilt the unit back slightly to drain the pan if you can, and if it returns, have the leak source found.
How Do I Fix a Bosch E24 Code?
E24 is a drainage fault. Clean the filter, clear the drain hose of kinks, check the sink air gap and disposal connection, and remove debris from the drain pump. If it still will not drain, the pump may need replacement.
Can E15 Clear on Its Own?
If the water in the base was from a one-time overfill and the pan dries out, the code can clear. If E15 keeps coming back, there is an active leak that needs to be located and repaired.
