Troubleshooting

Miele Dishwasher Fault Guide

Most Miele dishwasher complaints fall into four buckets: not draining, not filling, not drying, and leaking. Here is what causes each and what you can check before you call.

Short answer: Not draining is usually the filter, hose, or pump. Not filling is usually the supply valve or inlet. Poor drying is usually rinse aid or a heating issue. A leak trips the anti-flood float. Cleaning and rinse-aid checks fix many of these; pumps, valves, and leaks need a technician.

Not Draining

Standing water at the end of a cycle points to the drain path. Clean the triple filter at the base of the tub first, then check the drain hose for kinks and the sink air gap or disposal port if the machine drains through the sink. Debris caught in the drain pump can also stop it. Clearing the filter and hose resolves many drain complaints; a failed pump needs replacement.

Not Filling

If the machine will not take water, check that the supply valve under the sink is open and the inlet hose is not kinked. Miele inlet hoses include a safety valve that can trip. If the supply is fine and it still will not fill, the inlet valve or its wiring is the likely fault.

Poor Drying

Miele dries with residual heat and rinse aid rather than a hot fan blast, so low rinse aid, an overloaded rack, or plastic items that shed water poorly are common reasons dishes come out damp. Top up rinse aid and load with space between items. If the water is not heating at all, that is a heating-circuit fault and needs service.

Leaks

A leak can come from the door gasket, a hose or pump connection, or the tub itself. Miele units include an anti-flood system with a float in the base that shuts the machine down when it senses water. Shut off the water supply and book a diagnosis so the source is found before it damages cabinetry or flooring.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Is My Miele Dishwasher Not Drying?
Miele relies on residual heat and rinse aid for drying. Low rinse aid, an overloaded rack, or plastic items are common causes. If the water is not heating, a heating-circuit fault can leave everything wet and needs service.
My Miele Leaves Dishes Gritty. What Is Wrong?
Almost always a clogged filter or blocked spray arms. Clean the triple filter and clear the spray-arm jets. Hard-water scale can also dull results, which is why regular descaling helps in mountain homes.
Is a Small Puddle Under a Miele Dishwasher Serious?
It can be. A leak can come from the door seal, a hose connection, or the tub, and Miele units trip an anti-flood float that stops the machine. Shut off the water and book a diagnosis to find the source.
